The oldest Bellhanging Company in the UK combining Modern Technology with Traditional Craftsmanship
Established 1824
New bells and new bell frames carry a 10 year guarantee against faulty materials or workmanship. All new ringing/chiming fittings except stays and sliders carry a 5 year guarantee against faulty materials or workmanship. Stays and sliders are subject to the same guarantee but only through faulty materials or workmanship and not through misuse caused by faulty "bell-handling". If we forge-weld broken wrought-iron clappers the weld only is guaranteed for 3 years.
The following materials are used for new fittings:
All metal headstocks, if not of cast-iron, are hot-dipped galvanised both internally and externally and then powder-coated.
All main bearings for "full-circle" ringing bells are SKF double-row self-aligning bearings in cast-iron housings. No other manufacture of bearings are used.
All bolts used are 8.8 grade high tensile steel and are either galvanised or stainless steel, as appropriate.
New clappers are of heat-treated SG iron and are of our own design with traditional hexagonal flights both for aesthetics and for the better gripping of leather mufflers. We are also able to offer the forge-repair of broken wrought-iron clappers.
Clapper pins are of stainless steel.
Clapper bushes are of resiliently mounted Tufnol.
New wheels are of hardwood and of a superior standard of quality. All wood screws used are stainless steel.
Pulley units are of hardwood with sheaves of cast nylon (not to be confused with those of moulded nylon). Sheaves run on twin-sealed for life ball-races which ensure that the sheave runs true with no side play whatsoever.
Stays and sliders are of air-dried ash and sliders are steam-bent to shape in our workshops.
Runner-boards are manufactured from iroko.
Timber used throughout new projects is of hardwood. No softwoods are used.
All new timber is treated with insecticide/preservative and all metalwork is painted with a high quality metal primer, undercoat and gloss-coat with the exception of any hot-dipped galvanised surfaces which, is etched with a mordant solution, primed with special primer and then painted with high quality undercoat and gloss-coat paint.
A free maintenance is carried out on the installation approximately one year after works are completed.
